He Xiangu

He Xiangu is believed to have lived in the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907, with a brief interruption by the second Zhou Dynasty 690-705). She was born in either Lingling District, Yongzhou, Hunan or Zengcheng District, Guangzhou, Guangdong. She is often depicted holding a lotus flower and sometimes with the musical instrument known as a sheng (the musician pictured is Guo Yi with the Thames River in the background). She may also carry a bamboo ladle often used in formal tea preparation or a fly-whisk. She is sometimes depicted as flying on a crane or accompanied by a fenghuang – a special kind of phoenix. Her direction is southwest.
