Zhang Guolao

Also known as Zhang Guo or Chang Kuo Lao. Most legends initially describe him as a hermit living on Zhongtiao Mountain in Hengzhou during the Tang Dynasty. He was famous for making liquor from herbs, fruits and and shrubs as well as for his qigong practices. He is often depicted riding his magical mule while facing backwards, carrying a phoenix feather (used to control the seas) or the peach of immortality as well as a fish drum. The latter is a tube-shaped bamboo drum played with two iron rods or mallets. His direction is north. The demand for fish drums just is not what it used to be. Of course, neither Alibaba, eBay nor Amazon has peaches of immortality or even phoenix feathers.
